Coercivity and stability results for an extended Navier-Stokes system

چکیده
In this paper, we study a system of equations that is known to extend Navier-Stokes dynamics in a well-posed manner to velocity fields that are not necessarily divergencefree. Our aim is to contribute to an understanding of the role of divergence and pressure in developing energy estimates capable of both controlling the nonlinear terms, and being useful at the time-discrete level. We address questions of global existence and stability in bounded domains with no-slip boundary conditions. Through use of new H1 coercivity estimates for the linear equations, we establish a number of global existence and stability results, including results for small divergence and a timediscrete scheme. We also prove global existence in 2D for any initial data, provided sufficient divergence damping is included. C © 2012 American Institute of Physics. [http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4738637]

Differential Stability of Control Constrained Optimal Control Problems for the Navier-Stokes Equations
Distributed optimal control problems for the time-dependent and the stationary Navier-Stokes equations subject to pointwise control constraints are considered. Under a coercivity condition on the Hessian of the Lagrange function, optimal solutions are shown to be directionally differentiable functions of perturbation parameters such as the Reynolds number, the desired trajectory, or the initial...
متن کاملScientific Flow Field Simulation of Cruciform Missiles Through the Thin Layer Navier Stokes Equations
The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...
متن کاملStability Estimate for Strong Solutions of the Navier-stokes System and Its Applications
We obtain a ‘stability estimate’ for strong solutions of the Navier–Stokes system, which is an Lα-version, 1 < α < ∞, of the estimate that Serrin [Se] used in obtaining uniqueness of weak solutions to the Navier-Stokes system. By applying this estimate, we obtain new results in stability and uniqueness of solutions, and non-blowup conditions for strong solutions.
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
متن کاملOptimization with the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations as constraints
In this paper, optimal distributed control of the time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations is considered. The control problem involves the minimization of a measure of the distance between the velocity field and a given target velocity field. A mixed numerical method involving a quasi-Newton algorithm, a novel calculation of the gradients and an inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes solver, to find the opt...
